Biological databases and analytical tools are information resources for research and development of life sciences and biotechnology. We have improved the quality and interoperability of biological information resources with a number of groups domestic and abroad. Our accomplishments are:
- WABI: Development of Web services, CookBook and workflow navigation system (WNS) to serve problem solving environment to biology
- TPRP: Construction and management of Information Platform for Targeted Proteins Research Program (TPRP) to aim at information sharing and diffusion.
- MiGAP: Microbial Genome Annotation Pipeline for the age of massive sequence data
- GTPS, GIB and etc: Development of Derived databases from DNA Data Bank of Japan, e.g. microbial and viral genome database, IS sequence and Barcode of Life (BoL) sequence databases
- GBIF: Internationalization of specimen data and observation data in Japan and development of tools to utilize GBIF data

WABI provides Web services for search of multiple databases, homology search, alignment and others to help biologists and bio-informaticians. WABI also provides sample workflows and navigation system.

The Targeted Proteins Research Program is a national project promoted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan. The program aims to reveal the structure and function of proteins that have great importance in both academic research and industrial application. The project started as a five-year plan in FY 2007 and more than 150 scientists are now conducting research on 43 subjects.

MiGAP analyze either partial or complete microbial genome and return annotation to the user. The service is available on-line from the Database Center for Life Science (DBCLS).
|
Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) is an international project to develop a problem solving environment on any study on biodiversity. GBIF has developed a database on specimen and observation based on nodes in member countries and NGOs. This site is the HomePage of the GBIF Japan node.

|
GTPS is a database which is re-annotated against all genome determined prokaryote organisms by doing various analyses.
|
|
GIB is the comprehensive data repository of complete microbial genomes in the public domain. GIB will diffuse the genome sequence data and annotation in a day whenever the data is submitted to the International Nucleotide Sequence Databases (DDBJ, EMBL database and GenBank).

Two workbenches are available here:
1) InforBIO for databasing, identification and classification
2) G-InforBIO for browsing, annotating and comparison of genomes
Both especially fit to microbiology.
